15-year-old Revived After 30 Minutes Underwater

A teenager from Oregon is in critical condition after being underwater for more than 30 minutes. He jumped in water he thought was shallow, but turned out to be well over his head. The teen does not know how to swim.

Law enforcement personnel arrived within 10 minutes of the 9-1-1 call. It took 20 minutes for the rescue dive team to get there.

Cesar Campuzano was located underwater nine minutes after their arrival — totaling about 30 minutes in which he was completely submerged.

“I know when they arrived he was unresponsive, but we can’t confirm if he was breathing or not at the time,” Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Tim Svenson said. “They immediately started CPR and put him in an ambulance, and they hit his chest with the AED to shock him back and when I showed up there around 7:05 p.m. they loaded him up and took him straight up to Portland.”
